Marching Celebration

School started today with a loud and boisterous march in celebration of St. Patrick’s day.  The kids had a great time making music with their rhythm instruments.  A treat was discovered  in the pot of gold that has decorated the school this week.  Each child had a chance to get a treat for each hand to take home at the end of the day.

Pastor Paul shared a message in chapel this morning about drawing our strength from the word of God.  He used the example of tree roots drawing strength from the nutrients and water in the ground.  After his message the children were asked to share scripture verses they had memorized that would help them to have spiritual strength.  There were a number of volunteers to share the bible verses and phrases they have learned.  One of our three-year-old students shared the following:  “Plant your tomatoes, so they can grow.”

Health Department Representative Visits School

The children were able to learn a bit more about caring for their teeth today from a representative from the Du Page County Health Department.  The Department offers free educational programs to promote health awareness issues and sent one of their educators out to make a visit today.

Learn By Playing

The children were encouraged to participate in a game in which they were able to choose a food that would be good for their dental health and taste good too.  They quickly learned that some of their favorite treats might not be the best choice if they want to have strong healthy teeth all of their lives.

We appreciate the support  and help the Du Page County Health Department gives us as we endeavor to train our students in good life style choices.  Next week we are expecting another visitor, this time from Grove Dental to reinforce some of the things we learned today.

Special Visitors to the Little Lamb Class

Each of the classes had a visit today from Mary and her new born Baby, Jesus.   It was a great way to end our week of celebrating the birth of Jesus.  Many of the preschool and kindergarten children will be away from school for the next two weeks.  This timely reminder about what Christmas is all about was good for us all.

Mary and Jesus

Thanks to the parents that shared their time and talent with us as we told the story of Jesus’ birth in a memorable way.  Merry Christmas to all!

Teachers Reunited with Past Students

What a nice surprise we had today.  Students, Monica and Gina Goldblatt and their mother, Marta, paid a surprise visit to Oak Brook Christian School teachers.  The girls and their sister Suzanna participated in our preschool program twenty years ago.   The Goldblatt family continue to be in touch with their favorite teacher, Mrs. Barb, after moving to Virginia. The girls have excelled in their education.  One has a government position in Washington DC, one is in law school and the other is working on her PHD.  The teachers were pleased that the girls had good memories of their time here and that they desired to come back to see their preschool teachers once again.
