Kids, Parents and Special Guests Enjoyed Their Feast
Yesterday all our students and their guests, the church and school staff shared a delicious turkey and the trimmings lunch to celebrate the goodness of God. In thanksgiving for all He has provided the students and teachers brought hats, mittens and scarves for a Head Start program in Appalachia, Kentucky. In exchange, we all ate our fill at the feast.

Ready For the Turkey to be Served
The children from OBCS and the Head Start program will be exchanging photos of their holiday celebrations. This is the second year our feast has benefited this particular Head Start program. It has been a blessing to see where the hats and mittens really end up.

Wondering Who Will Receive These Warm Clothes
Besides the new hats, mittens and scarves, school and church families donated gently used winter coats and jeans to the Community Closet Project of the Hills and Hollers Ministry head by missionary’s, Jim and Rita Cmolik. One lady from Oak Brook Community Church has been knitting scarves since last Thanksgiving to benefit yesterdays outreach. Several boxes of her handwork will be traveling to Appalachia in just a couple of weeks. Many of her scarves were wrapped around a beanie baby to bless some child in need. The OBCS staff and the recipients of the gifts appreciate all who participated in our attempt to keep the children of McCreary County warmer this winter.

Classroom News
With the Fall Festival behind us, we are now having parent/teacher conferences this week. Teachers are reporting on the social and emotional development of their students. At the same time the children are enjoying their educational experiences.

Learning To Count
When I checked in on the Kindergarten class this morning they were counting. Last week they did several estimating activities with a pumpkin. They are definitely enjoying learning as they work to improve their math skills.

Learning to Listen
Our youngest students are learning how to be a part of a cooperating group. The skills for sitting quietly, listening, and waiting for your turn to share are practiced many times each day. There is always a fun reason to be giving your attention to the speaker.

A Good Story
Some of our four-year-old children are learning that C and K share the same sound. There was a fun activity for children to list all the words they could think of with that sound. They were very proud of their long list.

Lunch Time Learning
Teachers take advantage of any opportunity to talk with children and work on language skills. Lunch time is one of those times when social, language and cognitive skills are developed while enjoying the company of others and a nutritious meal. Learning is fun at Oak Brook Christian School.
