Respect and Take Care of Things

Posted by: Barb  //  Category: Special Event

This week the children have been learning how to RESPECT AND TAKE CARE OF THINGS.  What better way than keeping toys in the classroom clean and in good working order!

We had a special visitor, Kaila Kozak, come in with her very tiny kitten.  She explained how we need to respect animals by being kind to them and treating them nicely.  Kaila showed us how to pet the kitten and how to feed her.  She pointed out that feeding her isn’t the only way to take care of her, that you also need to give time for exercise and you need to brush her fur.  The children were then allowed to pet the kitten. She was very soft and very playful!

The children learned that taking care of pets is a lot of work, but Kaila says it is also fun!  Thank you Kaila for coming in today!

Be Polite and Kind

This week the children practiced being polite and kind to one another.  There were many games and activities to practice these skills.  The children had a fun filled week!  Next week is BE CAREFUL and STAY SAFE.  We will have a special visitor during the week to show us how to take care of pets!  Stay tuned!

Learning To Share

How do eight little people use four packages of Model Magic?  Someone in the group must have been listening to the lessons this week  because he came up with the idea of dividing the packages between the children.  That way there was enough molding clay for everyone to make something and everyone to have fun.  It was a great math lesson also.

And The Winners Are...

Another way to share is to wait and take turns.  That is what our airplane flying contest was all about.  Each child made a plane to fly in the contest, then had to wait their turn to fly it.  The winners of each heat proudly display their aircraft.  Now that we are pretty good at sharing and taking turns, we will be learning next week other ways to Be Polite And Kind. Summer camp is halfway over and we have certainly learned a lot already.

Sharing Is Fun

SHARE AND TAKE TURNS is the theme for this week’s camp activities.  We have already started learning ways we can share with our friends.  We learned that when we want what others have or they want what we have, there is a way to get along.  We can share by dividing the things we have so we can play together.  Another way is to use things together because playing together can be more fun than playing alone.  Trading is another way to share, so we practiced trading toys with each other.  It was fun to talk about and practice Learning to Get Along.

Corporal Andrew Martinson Makes A Visit To Camp

Today our Marine visitor came to share the bible story from Matthew 8 and Luke 7 about the Roman soldier who came to Jesus for help.  Corporal Martinson taught the children to be honorable by doing the right thing even when nobody is looking.  He also talked about honoring our parents, our friends and above all honoring God.

Trying It On

Some of the students tried on a Marine uniform blouse from the Philippines that Corporal Martinson traded for when he served there.  There were plenty of things to look at and talk about during the visit.

Learning About Honor

The children gave honor to Corporal Martinson by making him a thank you book.  Everyone enjoyed the time we had together learning how to be an honorable person.

Thank you Andy!

Fun In The Sun

What better way to cool off in the hot summer sun than to run through the sprinkler?  Our campers enjoyed another opportunity to get wet.

Boys take a turn cooling off.

Girls pose for the camera.

The boys were definitely more excited to play in the cool water today.  The girls enjoyed being the sunbathers and shade sitters.  The campers are looking forward to bringing  their bikes and trikes to school next Wednesday for bike day.   There is always something fun planned for each day.

Give Honor Where Honor is Due

Our kids came back to school this morning with stories of fireworks and family picnics.  We will spend the week discussing why we celebrate the Fourth of July each year and some people who deserve our respect and honor.  The children might even be hearing the Lord’s command to honor their father and their mother.  We look forward to a visit from a Marine on Friday who has a special bible story to share.  This shortened week will be full of fun and learning.

Fun In The Sun

Sprinkler Ball

We finally made it outside to enjoy some fun in the sun.  The children changed into their swimsuits, so they could get wet in the sprinklers today.

Wet Fun

Of course there were some rules to learn and obey while we were outside playing in the sprinkler.  That is what Know And Follow The Rules week is all about.

Bubble Fun

An alternative to getting wet was to blow bubbles.  Some chose both activities.  There was also a few sunbathers in the crowd.  It was a good way to warm up between runs through the sprinkler.

Sun, or is it shade bathers?

It was great fun to have the opportunity to play in the sprinklers today and we plan to do it again as the weather and schedule permits as we all learn to get along.
