Angelic Visitation

Angel has more to tell.

Angel has more to tell.

Today’s visitor came from heaven to tell more of the story of the birth of Jesus.  Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist (Jesus cousin) told about when the angel told him about the coming birth of his own son and the birth of Jesus.  He was speechless at the news.  Later the angel appeared to Mary to tell her that God had a very special plan for her to be the mother of the Savior of the world.  Our visiting angel had lots more to say about why we celebrate Jesus birth.  We are thankful to all those who came this week to help the children learn why the season is so important to all of us.    The staff and students of OBCS wish you all blessings as you celebrate the wonderful birth of Jesus Christ our Savior.

Shepherdess tells the Good News!

Shepherdess tells the Good News!

Yesterday our visitor came from the fields outside of Bethlehem to tell the children that Jesus was born and was found in a stable in the city of Bethlehem.   She told of the angel chorus that announced the arrival of the Savior of the world.  What exciting news!  She and her friends hurried to the place where the infant was laying in a manger.  They were some of the first to worship Jesus.

Mary & Joseph bring Jesus to our classrooms

Mary & Joseph bring Jesus to our classrooms

What a wonderful surprise we had this morning when Mary and Joseph showed up in the classrooms to tell the children about the birth of their son, Jesus.  As in the days past the children were able to share details they remember of the birth of Jesus. What an awesome way to learn and remember this important event.

Pastor Dan and the conductor scratch their beards while deciding what Christmas songs to sing.

After the conductor got everyone seated on the train, Pastor Dan lead the passengers in a few fun Christmas songs.

All the teachers wore their pajamas also.

Warm chocolate and cookies were served by the teachers during the trip to the North Pole.  The children enjoyed viewing the animated  version of Chris Allsburg’s book, Polar Express.  On the return from the North Pole the kids enjoyed watching a familiar classic story of Frosty the Snowman.  When the imaginary train pulled in the station all the children were excited to share about their adventures with their families.  It’s almost nap time here and I expect there will be some sweet dreams this afternoon.

Special Visit From the Inn Keeper's Wife

Posted by: m.martinson  //  Category: Classroom News

The children were visited today by an inn keeper’s wife who told them about the couple who had visited her stable and gave birth to a son.  She was excited to tell the story of the birth of Jesus right in her stable because there was no room left for Mary and Joseph to stay at her inn.  The children in each classroom were able to share some details they knew about this amazing birth.  I wonder who will visit here next?inn keepper's wife 005

Specail Delivery

special deliveryLast night the children presented the Christmas program to their parents, relatives and friends.  They did a wonderful job of conveying the message that Jesus is a special delivery to all of us from God.  He is our Savior.  The kindergarten kids were expert at saying their lines and adding pieces to the manger scene.  All the rest of the children joined in singing with gusto.  We all enjoyed a cookie and punch reception hosted by three wonderful Oak Brook Community Church volunteers.  We so appreciate their help.  Pastor Dan has invited the children to participate in the worship service this Sunday at 10:30AM.  The children will be singing a few of the songs from the program.  We are happy to be able to share the message of God’s “Special Delivery” with the church congregation.

We are almost ready for the big event!  Thursday, December 10th at 7PM is the time for our school Christmas program.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents, friends and relatives in the audience.  The kids have practiced every song and the kindergarten,  All Stars,  know their lines.  We are all anxious to participate in the big event called Special Delivery.  We hope that all who attend our presentation will not only enjoy the children’s rendition of the Christmas story, but they will be touched by the reality of the birth of Christ our Savior.
